What to Do When Diet Fail
Filed Under Diet, Weight Loss | Leave a Comment
Many people can lose weight just by changing their eating habits and exercise regimen. Some people lose weight with the assistance of diet programs. But, there are some people who physical problems such as thyroid problems or diabetes that can’t lose weight even with the assistance of diet programs. Where do these people turn to for help in losing weight when diets and exercise regimens fail?
A number of people turn to plastic surgery and other medical interventions to help them get rid of the weight when diets fail. They choose liposuction, gastric bypass, and other surgical means to get the weight off. Surgical and medical interventions such as these cost a lot of money and are not always covered by insurance, so the patient ends up having to pay for this out of their own pockets.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes some or all of the excess body fat that has accumulated in different parts of the body such as hips, thighs, upper arms, and stomachs. Before choosing a surgical procedure such as liposuction, you should find a surgeon you can trust, one who has been in the business for at least five years. Once you have chosen a surgeon, the two of you will decide on whether to use intravenous or general anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the procedure. You will also decide which parts of your body need the most work. Once this procedure has been completed, you will still need to adjust your eating habits and exercise regimen to make sure that you don’t gain the weight back.
Gastric bypass and other weight loss surgeries change the anatomy of your digestive system to limit the amount of food you can eat and digest. Surgeons prefer gastric bypass to other weight loss surgeries because it is safer and has fewer complications. But, gastric bypass isn’t the right choice for everyone who suffers from obesity. There are significant risks and side effects, and you will have to forever change your lifestyle if you choose this procedure. You will not be able to eat for one to three days after surgery to allow your stomach to heal. Once you are able to eat, you will spend the next twelve weeks progressing from a liquid diet, to pureed or soft diet, and then to a regular diet.
Whichever method of weight loss surgery you choose, you will want to make a very thought out and informed decision about surgeons as well as the surgical method you will use. Make a list of each surgical method and their pros and cons, and then make your decision based on that list. Surgery of any kind is not a decision to be made quickly.

POWER and Weight Loss / Gain
Filed Under Information, Weight Loss | Leave a Comment
Some people view too much weight loss or too much weight gain as being negative, a problem that sometimes needs professional help. In most cases, this is true and many need the help of a professional in dealing with this problem. But, with that being said, I wonder if there might be another way of looking at it, maybe weight loss and weight gain is a source of power and strength to someone who normally feels completely out of control and unable to cope with various aspects of their lives.
Someone may have suffered abuse at the hand of a trusted family member or friend and the way they were able to cope with this abuse was by eating or by not eating. Someone could have suffered the recent loss of a child or spouse, or another close family member, and the way they found they were able to cope with that loss was by eating or by not eating. Someone may be in the midst of a bad divorce and feel like they have no control over anything that is happening around them, but then they find that they are in control of one thing and that one thing is whether or not they eat.
Everyone goes through pain, fear, anger, confusion, and the whole gamut of emotions, but some people do not possess the strength, knowledge, or power in dealing with those emotions, until they discover that there is one power they do possess, the power to choose, the power to choose to eat or not eat, gain weight or lose weight.
Society as a whole sees obese people as being lazy or having a problem with overeating. They mumble comments under their breath about how they hope they never look like that, or they even go as far as telling their spouse to “kill me if I ever get that big and gross looking”. They secretly wonder how anyone could allow themselves to get to the point where they look like that. Their view of obesity becomes one full of judgment and negativity, and they do not stop to think about the feelings of the obese person.
People who use weight loss or weight gain as a way to cope with the problems they face in their lives do need professional help and should seek out that help immediately before they do irreversible damage to their bodies, minds, and spirits. But, those who aren’t obese should stop looking down their noses and being judgmental and hurtful, and so full of negative thoughts and behaviors, and try to sympathize and help those who do suffer from obesity and use that obesity as a method of power.

Lose Weight By Sleeping More
Filed Under Information, Weight Loss | Leave a Comment
Now that you have read the title of this article, you are probably quite skeptical about whether or not you can really lose weight just by getting more sleep every night. You are also probably waiting for me to spring some kind of catch or gimmick attached to this method of weight loss, but I am not. Getting more sleep really can help you lose weight and I am going to explain how this is possible.
Sleep deprivation can completely derail the hormone train that controls your appetite, cravings and fat burning metabolism. If the hormones in your body that control your appetite, cravings, and fat burning metabolism become unbalanced due to lack of sleep then you will find yourself having less energy to do any kind of physical activity or exercise, you will find yourself eating more than usual, craving more sweets and other snack type foods, and your metabolism will not be able to burn fat like it normally does. This will likely cause a weight gain rather than weight loss.
When you are in a deep sleep, your brain secretes a very large amount of growth hormone which instructs your body on how to break down fat for fuel. If your body is deprived of sleep and you are consuming extra calories the amount of the growth hormone is decreased and your body isn’t able to break down the fat; in short, lack of sleep can cause weight gain and more sleep can stimulate weight loss.
It has been recommended that a person get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep a night. On average, most people get between four and five hours of sleep each night, some less than that. Some people are only able to get a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep before waking up. It will take them a while to get back to sleep and they will only sleep for a couple of hours before waking up again. They wake up with little to no energy and it is because they are not getting enough sleep to rejuvenate their body. So, it seems very reasonable to me that you are able to lose weight by getting more sleep each night.
Now, you might think that this is an easy way to lose weight, but most people live such hectic and busy lives during the week that it is almost impossible to go to bed any earlier than they already do. Try going to bed at least one hour earlier at night on the weekends, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, and see how you feel when you wake up Monday morning. If you do notice yourself feeling better and more energized then try going to bed at least one hour earlier each night through the week. Keep a journal of how you feel after getting one hour of sleep extra each night, and also keep track of whether or not you lose any weight.
See for yourself whether or not you can lose weight simply by getting extra sleep each night.

JENNY CRAIG VS NUTRISYSTEM: IS THERE REALLY A DIFFERENCE?
Filed Under Information, Weight Loss | Leave a Comment
There are so many nutrition weight loss systems today that it can be hard to keep track of them all, and equally hard to try and decide which weight loss system to use. I am sure that everyone has heard of nutrition weight loss systems like Jenny Craig and NutriSystem. They are two separate companies but other than that I wonder if there are any other differences between the two.
NutriSystem’s mission is “to provide a weight loss program based on quality foods and a nutritionally balanced meal plan; individualized counseling is the core of our commitment that customers always have the privacy, support and knowledge needed to reach their goal weight”.
NutriSystem allows you to choose between creating your own 28 day menu with a breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert for each day or choose their pre selected Favorite Foods Package. Your order, NutriSystem Results Kit, and meal planner are all delivered right to your door. With NutriSystem you have access to free online community and weight loss trackers, and can get a free body assessment. NutriSystem advertises your ability to enjoy delicious, good for you, NutriSystem meals for as little as $11 per day, and lose weight.
Jenny Craig is advertised as being more than just a diet. “Our unique approach will help you achieve your weight loss goals – and you’ll learn to make healthy lifestyle changes so you can keep the weight off”. Jenny Craig focuses on the three key areas critical to effective weight loss; food, body, and mind.
Jenny Craig offers personal consultants to help develop meal plans that, combined with an active lifestyle and motivational support, will help you lose the desired weight. Jenny Craig has a variety of plans available to choose from and the cost of the program depends on which plan you choose, plus the cost of the food.
So, the answer to the question, “Is there really a difference?” is both yes and no. Jenny Craig and NutriSystem both have similar nutritional meal plans and packages to assist in weight loss; they both offer consultants or support staff to help you lose your desired weight; your meals are delivered directly to your home with both programs; and both programs have the same goals in mind, to help you lose the amount of weight you want to lose. The only real difference I could find between the two programs is the prices and the way they go about helping you to lose the weight you want to lose. One is designed for people who do not need much help and can follow the plan on their own, while the other is designed for people who do need help.

Healthy vs Thin
Filed Under Weight Loss | Leave a Comment
In today’s society it seems that people use the words healthy and thin as having the same meaning the same way that they seem to use the words unhealthy and fat as having the same meaning. If you look in the dictionary, thin means lacking excess flesh and healthy means promoting health. The words healthy and thin do not have the same definition.
Our children today tend to view the words healthy and thin as meaning the same thing. They view the world’s top supermodels as being thin and healthy but that is not always the case. When you ask your children to give you an example of a healthy person or a thin person they will oftentimes mention the names of supermodels that they see in magazines and on television, people like Tyra Banks, or Hollywood celebrities, people like Mary Kate and Ashley Olson.
When talking about being thin there is such a thing as being too thin such as is the case with being anorexic. People who suffer from anorexia tend to take diet and exercise to the extreme. They starve themselves and exercise to the point of exhaustion in order to lose more weight, they are constantly seeing themselves as being fat. Your body needs a certain amount of fat in order to survive. They may be losing weight but the way they go about losing that weight is very unhealthy and puts them in danger of dying.
When you are talking about being healthy there is no such thing as being too healthy. Being healthy does not necessarily have anything to do with how thin you are, but has everything to do with the way that you live your life, such as your diet, exercise pattern, sleeping pattern, and your good and bad habits. Deciding to live a healthy lifestyle means having a conversation with your doctor to find the ideal weight for a person of your height and then coming up with a diet and exercise pattern that will help you safely lose the weight over a reasonable period of time, without risks to your health.
I think it is very important that we as parents start teaching our children the difference between being healthy and being too thin while they are very young, before they start being exposed to supermodels and celebrities. We need to teach them that people come in all shapes and sizes, and that it more important to lead a healthy and nutritious lifestyle than it is to harm your bodies in attempt to be as thin, if not thinner, than some of the supermodels and Hollywood celebrities that they see on television or in newspapers and magazines.
